In 1926, Antonio "Tony" Gomes was instrumental in saving Reeds Bay from being filled in with gravel.
elow are the clippings and records he saved about this effort. Click on the images below to enlarge them.
In 1930, Tony became interested in the plight of a young Pilipino farm laborer who had contracted asthma and
was unable to get out of his contract in order to return home for medical treatment. Tony wrote the letter seen
below to the CEO of Dinicio's company on his behalf and was able to obtain his release. Tony also paid for his
return home and subsequent college education.
In 1938, Tony Gomes left his wife and children, who were settled in Angwin, California, to spend a year in his home
town on Brava in the Cape Verde Islands. He built the first Seventh-day Adventist building there at Nossa Senhora do Monte.
It housed a school, church and residence. Below are the photographs and cards he brought home. His work was published
in the Historical Dictionary of the Seventh-day Adventists (as seen below).
